The mayor's office said in an announcement Thursday that tenants on 923 Kelly St. were being evicted from their apartment in Longwood for not paying rent, when officials discovered what appeared to be a cannabis processing operation.

The sheriff's office says 93 plants and 24 pounds of flower were found in the basement apartment.

Authorities say tenants tapped into the buildings electrical power, walls had been torn down and the apartment had rooms filled with filtration systems and propane tanks.

"Illegal cannabis is not like the legal cannabis that goes through the regulatory process to make sure the substance you have is not dangerous to your body," said Mayor Eric Adams.

No one was in the apartment when the discovery was made, and authorities say no arrests have been made.
