One person is dead in a car crash on Route 9 in Garrison, according to officials.
The crash caused road closures for hours, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office says a driver in the southbound lane was killed after crossing into the northbound lane and crashing into a tractor-trailer.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. The condition of the driver of the tractor-trailer is unknown.
Police say Route 9 is closed between Route 403 and Heritage Drive, which is in the area of Old Highland Turnpike.
Officials say the road will remain closed for an extended period of time.
People in the area say this area is prone to accidents.
"There was just sheriff's flying by, they closed the intersection," says Eymi Aquino, an employee at the Appalachian Market nearby. "Today was a really nice day and it just gets people flying by."
"I've never seen someone speed to the point it would cause an accident but I've seen people speed on this road," says Kevin Landacay, a Wappinger resident. "I drive this road everyday to pick up my nephews."
