A social media threat resulted in remote instruction for Poughkeepsie High School and Poughkeepsie Middle School, along with a one-hour delay, Monday.

District Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser says he has not yet determined when the school would reopen for in-person learning.

School officials became aware of the threat Sunday night and immediately reported it to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department to investigate.

The threat mentioned a shooting was to take place today, tomorrow and Wednesday.

Although it's believed to be a hoax, the school district says all threats are taken very seriously. 

According to the FBI, threatening a school - even if it’s a prank - is a local and federal offense.

This comes after the school had to close for two days last month because of a similar threat.  An arrest has been made in that case.

UPDATE: Both Poughkeepsie Middle School and Poughkeepsie High School will remain on a remote learning schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, March 22, 2022. The credibility of the social media threat made against both schools is still under investigation by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Students and staff are expected to engage in remote learning using the traditional bell schedule.
