The holiday season is in full swing with people searching for the perfect gift. But this year's shorter shopping season is challenging mom and pop stores located in Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District.

There are only 27 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas to shop this year, that's five less days than last year.

Sei, lead stylist at M.Patmos, said the store has been doing a little more to attract buyers.

"We host events on Saturdays and Sundays here," said Sei. "Those events definitely help bring more traffic."

While some people might find shopping online to be more convenient, but small business owners believe shopping in store can actually give them the best experience.

"When you have a local shop, you can come in up until the day before Christmas," said Adam Rubin, co-owner of Art of Play. "If you leave it for the last minute, you don't have to worry about shipping. You don't have to worry about delays."
