The Brooklyn Bridge Park Defense Fund now has national support from the Sierra Club in its fight against planned apartments at a new park.
The Sierra Club announced Thursday at the Brooklyn Heights promenade that it backs the group?s lawsuit. Both sides feel the 85-acre park planned for Brooklyn?s waterfront should not contain condominiums, and say doing so would break a state law that prohibits private development inside public parks. However, the state says condos are needed to pay for the park?s $15 million annual maintenance.
The Brooklyn Bridge Park Defense Fund and state representatives are due back in court August 2.
