Below-freezing temperatures like the ones that hit Brooklyn over the weekend can cause pipes to burst as water freezes inside them.
One Crown Heights woman says it happened to her Sunday, and NYCHA, according to her account, has been in no rush to make repairs.
"It was like a waterfall down here," Elizabeth MacArthur says of Sunday afternoon, when the pipes broke. "I'm held hostage in my apartment, because this might get worse and flood over to the neighbor's apartment."
Meanwhile, MacArthur says she has been dumping dirty water by hand with a jug several times a day.
She says NYCHA crews told her the pipes in her building's basement were frozen in a block of ice, but as temperatures climbed Tuesday, repairs still hadn't come.
NYCHA tells News 12 it dispatched a plumber to fix the issue.
