A pilot escaped injury after his single-engine plane crashed on Route 42 in Sullivan County.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the crash involving the Cessna 210 happened around 1:15 p.m.
Mark Simmons, the 66-year-old pilot from Maine, told authorities he was heading from Sussex, New Jersey, to Sullivan County Airport.
There was no one else on board the plane.
Sullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff commented that the experience and skill of the pilot was evident in bringing the plane down on a stretch of road with minimal traffic.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
