Brooklyn residents came out Saturday to participate in the inaugural Detective Ramos and Detective Liu Community Day.
The event was held in honor of NYPD detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who were shot and killed while sitting in their police car last December.
Organizers say they hope to bridge the gap between the community and the police department.
The event included a basketball tournament with 80 players. The detectives' families also accepted personalized basketballs.
The Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps was also recognized during the event for being first on scene to assist the fallen officers.
