Six months to the day after two NYPD detectives were killed in the line of duty, one is being honored on the same block where he lived with his family.
Ridgewood Avenue between Shepherd Avenue and Highland Place is now known as Detective Rafael L. Ramos Way.
Ramos' wife and two sons helped to unveil the street sign on Saturday in the Cypress Hills neighborhood.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner William Bratton were in attendance.
People living in the area say the sign will be a reminder of a man they admired. The city says the sign will stay forever.
Ramos and his partner Detective Wenjian Liu were murdered in December while sitting in a patrol car in Bed-Stuy. Liu's family was on hand to support the Ramos family on Saturday. A street in Gravesend was named after Liu last week.
