The camping season at Smith Point County Park will go on for its full season after Suffolk County initially decided to end it early.
The park will stay open until Nov. 1, but the Suffolk County Parks Department had originally decided to shut the camp down on Oct. 24.
County officials told News 12 they decided to reverse the decision because of complaints and backlash from campers.
Campers at Smith Point Beach in Shirley say they were upset that the campground was closing early this season. They were excited for the annual Halloween tradition of welcoming hundreds of children to trick-or-treat.
The Suffolk County Parks Department has previously posted a message on Facebook explaining that they were closing the campground because the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County need extra time to start constructing their annual holiday light show at the park.
Officials say those who wanted to book the campground for the last week in October will be contacted by the Parks Department to rebook their reservations.
