Three things to know:
The major winter storm is pulling away, and we can see what it left behind. There was, on average, at least a foot of snow that came down across the Hudson Valley. Some spots closer to the city saw a little less (with sleet mixed in), but some saw near 18" of snow.
The highest snowfall total was in Orange County, where Monroe picked up 18". While most counties had the winter storm warning lifted, Dutchess and Ulster counties are still under one until the latest, 7 p.m. tonight.
Snow showers will linger through the day, especially north of I-84, as the system pulls away. It will draw in behind it another round of frigid arctic air tonight. Temperatures will dip down into the single digits tonight but feel sub-zero with the winds factored in. There will be breezy winds around from time-to-time Tuesday. And couple that with the fresh snowpack, and we'll have an extra cold contributor to our temperatures trending very cold for this time of year. Because temperatures don't warmup until Groundhog Day, next Monday, this snow is not going away anytime soon.
There is a chance we see another round of winter weather before Groundhog Day though on Sunday. I have that day highlighted on your 10-day forecast as it is something we have to watch. We certainly don't need anymore snow adding up on top of what we have lying around the region.
