A soldier from Brooklyn has been identified as one of the nine Fort Hood service members killed during a training exercise last week.
Staff Sgt. Miguel Angel Colonvazquez drowned along with eight others when the military vehicle they were riding in tipped over in raging floodwaters.
Colonvazquez was a decorated member of the army who served for 12 years, including four deployments to the Middle East.
The Fort Hood solider leaves behind a wife and four children. The Boerum Hill neighborhood where Colonvazquez grew up is coming to their aid and raising funds to alleviate any financial burdens the family may have.
Army officials are investigating the incident, which came amid heavy rains and flooding in parts of Texas.
