Some 3 train subway stations in Brownsville and East New York will be shutting down for repairs for the next five months.

Construction is set to begin at 5 a.m. Monday at the Rockaway Avenue and Van Siclen Avenue stations. The MTA says the renovations are part of an $88 million project that will bring seven stations along the 3 line to a state of good repair. The stations all opened in the early 1900s.

Improvements expected to be made include new lighting, better platforms, enhanced safety features, new guardrails and repairs to sewer lines and concrete. New art will also be installed at the platforms.

Commuters affected by the service shutdown will be provided with free shuttle buses at the Saratoga Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue stations.

The MTA expects the construction to run through September. Renovations at the Saratoga Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue stations will commence in October.
