A Congressional hearing Monday revealed some risk factors leaving Brooklyn and city ports vulnerable to a terrorist attack.
Some lawmakers fear Brooklyn?s ports are where terrorists will strike next, especially after millions were cut from the city?s homeland security budget. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly testified at the hearing to explain that the city?s ports need to be treated differently from other ports. Some Congress members also testified that only 5 to 7 percent of containers coming into the ports daily are inspected.
Port Authority officials say their primary line of defense will continue to be its employees. Commissioner Kelly announced that police are working with the Department of Homeland Security to create a port intelligence center.
