The Brooklyn residents that came out Tuesday for the second of three community hearings on the proposed Atlantic Yards project feel the meeting was overshadowed by the primary elections.
During the first public hearing on August 23, hundreds lined up around the block to attend. The line on primary day was sparse and many who did attend say there were more empty chairs than people. Some residents say it was unfair to hold the meeting on primary day because people were busy with the elections.
The Empire State Development Corporation, which is holding the hearings, says the date was not intentionally set on primary day. The corporation says by the time it realized the dates were the same, the public notices had already been sent out.
The third community hearing on the proposed Atlantic Rail Yards project will be on September 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the New York College of Technology.
