Sources: Alleged Bushwick shooter claims bullet that killed baby was meant for her father
The alleged shooter in a possible gang-related shooting that killed a baby in Bushwick claims he meant to strike her father, sources close to the investigation say.
Authorities say 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore’s father has an affiliation with members of the Money Over Everything gang, which is based out of the Bushwick Houses. Amuri Greene, the alleged shooter, is known to be a "gang associate" from the NYCHA Marcy Houses.
Moore and her 2-year-old brother were accompanied by their parents when the violence unfolded near Humboldt and Moore streets around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say Greene and Matthew Rodriguez allegedly rode a moped up to the corner, where Greene, riding on the rear of the moped, allegedly fired at least two rounds into a crowd where at least two occupied strollers stood.
The baby was struck in the head, and her father ran her to five blocks to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, where she died. Her brother was grazed in the back and is expected to recover.
Prosecutors say Greene, 21, faced a judge for the first time Thursday and faces three counts of murder, attempted murder, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of assault.
Greene was hospitalized and taken into custody after the duo’s moped crashed into an oncoming car near Siegel Street and Manhattan Avenue while attempting to flee the scene.
Rodriguez, 18, the alleged moped driver, was captured Friday in Pennsylvania and will be extradited to New York City to face charges, authorities say.
Community members, faith leaders and elected officials held a prayer service for Moore on Saturday.
Moore’s grandmother, Christina Poitier, spoke out about the tragedy.
“This should have never happened,” said Poitier. “There should’ve never been a shooting where a baby is being killed as an innocent bystander.”
The reason the duo was targeting Greene’s father remains unclear.
