Sources: Man in custody for stealing car with 2-year-old in the backseat

The suspect was arrested half a mile away at Liberty Avenue and Wyona Street.

Sources say a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to a carjacking with a 2-year-old boy in the vehicle outside an East New York bodega.

Police say around 10:40 a.m. two people in a red Nissan Pathfinder pulled up in front of bodega at 480 Sutter Ave.

The driver and passenger got out of the vehicle and left the car on and running while they went inside the store.

Moments later, surveillance video captures a man getting into the vehicle and driving off. Police say a 2-year-old boy was inside the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested half a mile away at Liberty Avenue and Wyona Street.

Officials say the boy is safe.

Sources say 34-year-old Maurice Stephen's has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, criminal possession of stolen property and endangering the welfare of a child.
