Hundreds of students in Morrisania will start the school year in the borough's newest charter school. The school, Children's Aid College Prep, is the first of its kind in The Bronx, and will enroll more than 130 kindergartners and first-graders. The building features new equipment and smaller classrooms.
The school's goal is to prepare students for college by helping meet the needs of struggling parents. Throughout the year, the school will provide free medical and dental care for students without insurance. School officials say every student will also be provided with a bank account to save up money for college.
Classes begin this Wednesday, Aug. 29. Administrators say they plan to add a grade every year until the fifth grade. To watch extended interviews on the new school, click on News 12 Extra on Optimum TV channel 612.
