Spiciest wing challenge puts spice-lovers to the test

If you love spicy food, Quaker Steak & Lube has just the challenge for you.
In honor of National Hot Sauce Day earlier this month, the restaurant chain released its spiciest hot sauce yet.
The sauce is called "Eat Heat," and it's made from scorpion pepper venom and concentrated capsaicin. There is a hint of sweetness in the spicy sauce, as it contains juicy wild berries.
The Scoville scale is used to measure spiciness. For reference, a jalapeno is less than 10,000 Scoville units. The "Eat Heat" sauce is 1.5 million Scoville units. That means the sauce is more than 150 times hotter than a jalapeno.
Inspired by the "Eat Heat" hot sauce, Quaker Steak & Lube also rolled out the "Eat Heat" challenge. Guests who want to participate in the challenge have to sign a waiver, then finish six wings doused in the ultra-spicy sauce. If you win, you get an "Eat Heat" T-shirt.
Quaker Steak & Lube's locations in the tri-state are in Brick, Edison, and Pohatcong, New Jersey.
Since the release of the "Eat Heat" hot sauce and challenge on Jan. 22, the restaurant says more than a dozen customers have tried it at the New Jersey locations.
General Manager Sam Tecchio says the restaurant had a similar hot sauce challenge, made with their "Triple Atomic" hot sauce, and customers asked for an even spicier option.
"It creates a fun environment for the guests and the staff to watch someone do this to themselves, so it's been fun," Tecchio said.
