White Cane Awareness Day is celebrated every year on Oct. 15, and this year it falls on a Saturday.
Carlos Martinez, CEO of Bridges, is holding a No Limits event at Visions in Spring Valley this Saturday from 9-11 a.m.
There will be keynote speakers, White Cane activities and simulated blind exercises.
"Once a person knows how it feels to be blind or visually impaired, it gives a person a greater understanding of why services need to be in place," says Regina Diorio, director of grants and communications for Bridges.
White Cane Awareness Day is just one step in merging or bridging the gap.
"When you put the disabled first, everyone benefits," says Martinez.
