The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers increased its reward for any information that can help police put a stop to a recent string of carjackings and robberies.
Federation founder Fernando Mateo says there’s been nine different incidents this month, with eight of those taking place in the Bronx.
The latest incident happened Monday morning when driver Bamory Sanogo’s car was stolen in University Heights by a man and woman he picked up minutes before. Sanogo says he was choked by one of them while the other stole over $130 from his wallet - and his taxi.
“These are people that know what they’re doing, know where to do it, how to do it and how to get away with it,” said Mateo. “That’s why were offering a $7,500 reward to get these people off the streets.”
