The state is expected to give the green light Tuesday to new charter schools in Brooklyn and the rest of the city.According to the New York Post, a subcommittee of the state's Board of Regents is moving ahead with the plan to increase the number of charter schools in the city to 73. The plan would mean four additional charter schools in Brooklyn.The state's Legislature previously increased the number of charter schools in the state from 100 to 200. The charter schools will also be given greater independence from the Department of Education. In exchange for the independence, the charter schools will have to meet stricter achievement goals.The total number of charter schools in the state for 2008 is expected to hit 110.
