One musical group from Brooklyn will be making its first appearance at this year's West Indian American Day Carnival.
Genesis Pan Groove Steel Orchestra USA will make their debut in Monday's parade and have been preparing.
Within the last two months, members of the group say Sunday's are their only days off. They say that steel pan has actually heightened their sense of sound.
Members told News 12 that steel pan is actually the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago.
They say it wasn't always open to women and children.
The group feels a deep sense of pride for those that play.
