Safety improvements have been made by the Department of Transportation after a proposal to make pedestrian crossings in Fort Greene more convenient.

Pedestrians previously had to resort to jaywalking or going entirely around Fort Greene Park to get to its entrance. Now, an added stop sign and crosswalk situated at Washington Park and Willoughby Avenue allow people to safely enter.

The DOT's original proposal said that there are a larger volume of pedestrians crossing in the area than cars.

Additionally, it says Washington Park is a long and calm street, so the interruption in the street for a stop sign and crosswalk should not hinder drivers much.

The DOT is also working on projects around Pratt Institute and the nearby public library.
