Stores are opening earlier than ever this year to let shoppers get a jump on Black Friday shopping.
Kmart broke a record by opening its doors at 6 a.m. Thursday. Best Buy and JC Penney opened their doors at 5 p.m. Target, Walmart, Kohl's and Macy's let shoppers in at 6 p.m.
Macy's says opening earlier has helped them attract the customers that don't mind shopping on Thanksgiving.
Of course, more foot traffic means more money. Experts say the holiday season can account for 40 percent of a retailer's annual sales.
Some shoppers say they are happy about shopping on Thanksgiving because the crowds are smaller and they are off from work.
Macy's says their workers can receive higher pay for working on Thanksgiving and can take off on Black Friday.
