HEAT ALERT: Dangerously hot and humid with poor air quality for Brooklyn

Here’s what you need to know:
  • An EXTREME HEAT WARNING is in effect through 8 p.m. this evening. Expect dangerously hot temperatures with heat indices between 100-110 degrees. Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the risk of heat related illnesses.
  • An AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. Pollution levels are elevated with AQI values over 100. People with preexisting respiratory issues, heart disease, asthma, the elderly and very young kids should avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
  • It's a very warm and sticky start with temperatures in the low 80s.
  • Today will be day 2 of our first potential heat wave of the summer season. The extreme heat, hazy sky, very humid conditions and poor air quality will take us throughout today. Highs will be in the upper 90s near 100 degrees. Heat indices will be in the triple digits. Record highs are within reach today. The record is 96 degrees setback in 1888 and we’re forecasting a high of 100 degrees. If we hit 100 degrees, this will be the first 100-degree day in 13 years. Temperatures overnight will stay very warm in the low 80s.
  • The relentless extreme heat lasts into Wednesday with highs in the 90s. Feel like temperatures will be close to 97-100. There's a chance of an isolated pop-up storm Wednesday evening. An isolated severe storm is possible Wednesday evening with the risk of strong to damaging winds and a few downpours.
  • The high heat and humidity end on Thursday as chances of rain increase during the day. Temperatures will be falling throughout the day to the 70s near 80 degrees. Stay tuned for the timing and impacts.
  • We've had nine consistent weekends with measurable rainfall since late April. Unfortunately, the chance of rain continues through this weekend as temperatures stay in the 70s and 80s.
