Here’s what you need to know:
- An AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect from 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. This is for ground level ozone. Sunshine, high heat and more humidity is bringing elevated pollutants levels to the surface. People in sensitive groups with respiratory issues should reduce strenuous outdoor activities.
- Our third potential heat wave is less likely this week. Yesterday we got to a high of 89 degrees. We need three 90-degree days or hotter to classify as a heat wave. If we hit 90 degrees today through Thursday, we'll have another opportunity for it. Stay tuned for updates!
- It's a mild, sunny and pleasant start to the day. Temperatures are in the low 70s.
- Today will be another hot day with hazy sunshine and increasing humidity. Highs will be in the low 90s. We will experience a decline in air quality this afternoon with an AQI over 100.
- Air quality concerns should be monitored through tomorrow due to more high heat and humidity.
- The dry stretch continues today. There's a chance of a few isolated showers/storms Wednesday afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s with heat indices in the mid 90s. The front will stall nearby bringing more chances of rain Thursday midday into the afternoon.
- There's a celestial event happening in the night sky this month. The Perseid meteor shower peaks tonight into early tomorrow morning bringing up to 100 shooting stars per hour. Sky conditions are expected to be mostly clear with mild temperatures in the 70s. If you want to see the glorious sightings, look towards to the northeastern parts of the sky during the predawn hours.
- Temperatures fall back to the 80s on Friday with low humidity. Another stellar weekend is ahead with dry weather, warm temperatures and some humidity.
- TRACKING THE TROPICS: We're currently monitoring three areas of interest in the Atlantic basin. Tropical Storm Erin formed yesterday in the Eastern Atlantic. It's expected to continue its western path North of the Leeward Islands and intensify to a major cat 3 hurricane by this weekend. There's still a lot of uncertainty on the path early next week, but most of the models are suggesting off the Eastern seaboard of the US. Stay tuned for changes. The other two tropical disturbances has a low chance of further development in the Northwestern/the gulf over the next 7 days. Stay tuned for updates!
Today: Still hazy, hot with increasing humidity. Highs near 91.
Tonight: Mostly clear and mild. Lows near 73.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, still hot and humid. PM isolated showers/ storms.
