Other than a lingering rain sprinkle or flurry, it is drier this evening. Roads can still be wet, but temperatures are expected to stay above freezing overnight with a partially clearing sky. Standing water is not expected to refreeze, but use caution for slick conditions that can linger. You will also notice the wind picks up after midnight.
CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS DAY:
Overall, quieter weather will be with us for Wednesday and Thursday. It will be windy and chilly tomorrow, but under a mostly sunny sky. A spotty shower under a mostly cloudy sky cannot be ruled out on Thursday, but nothing significant is expected.
STORM WATCH: FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY
Confidence is increasing for accumulating snow to impact Long Island from late Friday afternoon through early Saturday. While exact details will become clearer tomorrow and Thursday, it is important to plan for possible significant travel impacts late Friday into the start of the weekend. Plowable snow is possible.

EXTENDED FORECAST:
TONIGHT: Rain sprinkles or flurries will end. Clouds gradually clear overnight. Becoming partly cloudy. A west-northwest wind picks up after midnight with gusts up to around 30 mph into Wednesday morning. It will feel cold with lows in the mid-30s and some wind chills in the 20s early Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY: CHRISTMAS EVE — Mostly sunny, chilly and windy. Some northwest wind gusts will be near 35 mph. Highs around 44 degrees will feel like the low to mid-30s. Lows near 27 degrees.
THURSDAY: CHRISTMAS DAY — Mostly cloudy. Slight chance for a spotty shower or patchy drizzle. No major weather-related travel impacts expected. Highs around 44 degrees. Lows near 22 degrees.
FRIDAY: STORM WATCHKWANZAA — Cloudy in the morning with snow developing in the late afternoon or evening. Several inches of plowable snow will be possible Friday p.m. through early Saturday. There is a chance for some mixing as well into Saturday morning. Significant travel impacts cannot be ruled out at this time. Highs near 33 degrees. Lows near 24 degrees.
SATURDAY: STORM WATCH— A period of snow or mix tapers off throughout the morning. Slippery travel likely. Highs near 38 degrees. Staying mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Lows near 32 degrees.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Highs around 46 degrees. Lows near 30 degrees.
MONDAY: Sun and clouds. Slight chance for a few flurries. Colder. Highs around 34 degrees. Lows near 20 degrees.
TUESDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs around 30 degrees. Lows near 22 degrees.
