A winter storm warning is in effect for Sunday morning and will remain in effect until Monday evening. Hazardous driving conditions are expected during this time and wind and snow will reduce visibility to less than 1/4 a mile at times.
Latest on Sunday's Storm
Light snow will begin around 7 a.m. Sunday morning and with temperatures in the teens, we expect snow to quickly accumulate. Snow rates will increase quickly mid-morning and early afternoon on Sunday and create whiteout conditions in spots by lunchtime, as gusts reach near 30 MPH. Some of the heaviest snow accumulations are expected to occur early Sunday afternoon.
Road conditions will be hazardous before noon on Sunday, but the worst weather is expected to arrive in the afternoon and linger into the evening. South of I-287, snow accumulations may stop after 5 p.m. when snow mixes in with sleet, creating a heavy layer of ice on top of 6-10 inches of snow.
Total snow accumulations by Monday morning could reach nearly 1 foot in lower Westchester and Rockland counties, with more than 1 foot of snow expected in many neighborhoods in the upper Hudson Valley. The highest snow totals are expected to be in Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties, where more than 14 inches of snow is possible.
