There is a FLOOD WATCH in effect for central New Jersey and parts of southwestern New Jersey today. There will be thunderstorms that produce hazardous flooding later today.
FORECAST:
Stormy weather is expected to be hazardous today after morning breaks of sun. There is lingering dampness from last night's storms. Afternoon conditions will be unsettled and cloudy with periods of rain that move across the state through the evening.
Training storms, or storms that follow each other, will unleash a lot of liquid over the same locations over the span of a few hours. This can create rainfall totals upwards 2" or more in a short period of time that signifies the threat for flash flooding. It is important to be careful in central New Jersey through this evening's commute - especially in Mercer, Somerset, Middlesex, Monmouth, and northern Ocean counties.
Stormy weather lingers into the night for south Jersey before clearing into Wednesday morning. Northern New Jersey will see some rain, but likely will not be a major issue in our northern zones. This is a central and southern New Jersey issue.
The sun shines on Wednesday, and it will feel better. Hot temperatures, though. Temperatures reach nearly 90 degrees all week long.
Thursday will be gorgeous as well with a passing spot thunderstorm in our northern areas for the afternoon and evening. This isn't widespread, but residual from a front passing through the Catskills and Poconos north of the state.
July 4th is expected to be awesome and so will the rest of the weekend with hot summer temperatures and sunshine.
