Storm Watch Team meteorologists are tracking a wintry weather system that is expected to create quite a mess on Saturday.

Meteorologist Dave Curren says that the storm will start off as rain, before turning into a bit of snow by the afternoon. The storm will also produce lots of wind.

A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of Sussex and Warren counties until 7 p.m. Saturday. Parts of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris and Somerset counties are under a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. Saturday. A wind advisory is in effect for most of the state until 1 a.m. Sunday.

There will be partly cloudy skies for Friday evening, followed by period of rain Friday night. Overnight lows will dip down into the low-30s.

Most of the state will see rainy weather by around 7 a.m. Saturday. That rain will change into snow between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. for the northwestern portion of the state. Curren says that from around 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. most of northern New Jersey and areas west of the New Jersey Turnpike will see all snow. He says that this will be the worst of the storm.

The storm should begin to taper off by the afternoon and early evening. Curren says that while there will be snow, he is not expecting accumulations to have too much of an impact. A few inches are expected. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the upper-30s, with overnight lows around 33 degrees.

Daylight saving time begins Sunday at 2 a.m., so set your clocks ahead one hour. Sunday will see mostly sunny skies, with some clouds. Daytime temperatures will only be in the mid-30s. Sunday night will see partly cloudy skies and overnight temperatures in the low-20s.

Temperatures are expected to warm into the 50s for most of next week.
