Parents and students held a rally Monday outside Boys and Girls High School, demanding action from the city to help save the failing school.
The rally comes after the resignation of the school's principal, Bernard Gassaway. According to published reports, Gassaway said, "The problem is, there is no plan" for saving the school.
Parents and education activists at the rally say they agree and are frustrated with the lack of leadership from the mayor and his administration when it comes to helping struggling schools. Boys and Girls High School has received three consecutive F ratings from the city.
Parents and students are asking Mayor Bill de Blasio to visit the school and talk to them about how his administration will work with the failing school. One parent News 12 spoke with says the school needs a new principal who can turn this school around immediately.
The spokesperson for the Department of Education says, "We continue to focus on improving achievement outcomes at all our schools, especially those with longstanding challenges. We are innovating and investing in schools across the city to provide critical interventions that will support learning in the classroom."
