Students and the NYPD played basketball together today in hopes to bridge the gap between the police and the community.

The Brooklyn School for Career Development teamed up with the NYPD’s 88 Precinct for a friendly game of basketball.

The goal of the game was for students to realize that the police are friends to them, and that the officers care about them and are role models.

The school focuses on introducing students to new experiences, including the changing of ideas.

The staff say that the basketball game is just one way of morphing the perceptions that many students may have of police.

They plan to continue holding a variety of events with the NYPD, hoping to build a more positive relationship with students.
