Students and teachers at P.S. 139 rallied together to get the money to fix their playground.
They say they've been writing letters to Sen. Kevin Parker asking for $500,000 to make the final repairs. The staff says in 2017, the community voted to award $500,000 to a playground renovation through the Mathieu Eugene's participatory budget.

They say they need more to fix drainage issues. Some of the fifth-grade students say ponding is a regular issue whenever it rains.

Parker says he'll be adding the new playground to the budget in June. Officials say they're hoping to have the repairs made as early as the start of the next school year.
