‘Subway surfing kills.’ MTA president laments ‘another innocent life’ lost in F train death
This is the first death from subway surfing this year and the second since the launch of Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul’s “Subway Surfing Kills – Ride Inside, Stay Alive” campaign.

Police say that a 14-year-old boy died while subway surfing on an F train on Friday afternoon.
Police received a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. and arrived at the Avenue N subway station where the teen was hit by a southbound F train. The FDNY pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
This is the first death from subway surfing this year and the second since the launch of Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul’s “Subway Surfing Kills – Ride Inside, Stay Alive” campaign in September 2023.
The F line was previously not notable for surfing, according to the MTA. The NYPD has special patrols on the J/Z and 7 lines after school lets out for the day. Anti-subway surfing messaged also continue to play in MTA stations and trains.
“Subway surfing kills,” says MTA President Richard Davey. “Another innocent life has been lost, and it should not happen."
