With gas prices making a steady climb, some Bronx drivers are worried they will go even higher as summer approaches.
"I can't go no higher," says consumer Lisa Thomas. "I got kids to feed. I gotta go to work. I gotta eat." Other drivers share the same concerns, especially those with trucks and other vehicles that can take up to $60 to fill up.In New York, drivers are paying nearly $3.47 a gallon at some locations. The Lundberg Survey reported Monday that the national average is $3.32 per gallon, with San Francisco drivers paying $3.72 a gallon. Meanwhile, diesel fuel, which is used in tractor-trailers and many other vehicles, is more than $4 per gallon.
Some are considering quitting the pump all together, especially as the busy summer driving season approaches. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates gas will go to $4 a gallon during that time.
AAA experts advise maintaining adequate tire pressure, driving below 60 mph and buying regular gasoline rather than premium to maximize gas efficiency.
