Residents are fighting what they call the overdevelopment of Sunset Park, saying the neighborhood isn't for sale and they're not moving out.
A group of mainly Asians and Hispanics have formed the Protect Sunset Park Committee. Its goal is to reduce commercial development and high-rise buildings in the mainly residential area.
"We?re pushing for change that's going to improve and better our community," said May Lin, of the Chinese Staff and Workers Association. "Not suck the life out and not aggravate the hardships that we're already experiencing."
The group said it's concerned that the city, which is currently working to establish zoning rules for the area, will not seek community input.
The Department of City Planning will meet with Community Board 7 leaders Wednesday to discuss plans for Sunset Park, which currently has no building height limits on the books.
