Sunset Park residents held their first-ever town hall-style forum Sunday in an effort to block overdevelopment in the area.
The Sunset Park Alliance of Neighbors organized the meeting at P.S. 24. Residents were given the chance to voice concerns about the possibility of eventually displaced due to a construction boom. Affordable housing also topped the agenda.
Participants expressed concern over more chain stores moving into their area, threatening some mom-and-pop operations.
SPAN plans to take residents suggestions and concerns to the Department of City Planning. The city has promised to conduct a study of the area's zoning and release findings by the end of the year.
