Jon Kent, the son of Superman (Clark Kent) and Lois Lane, is coming out as bisexual in an upcoming DC Comics release.
The news came as a surprise to comic book fan and All-Star Comics employee Brittney Dickinson. She says Jon Kent, the new generation Superman, is a nod to current times.
“It’s cool. It’s a different story. It’s a different take on the classic Lois Lane, Clark Kent kind of thing,” she told News 12 at the Lindenhurst store.
She says it’s great to see Jon Kent and DC Comics take a big leap to have a romantic relationship with a same-sex fellow character.
The announcement corresponded with National Coming Out Day – a day acknowledging the LGBTQ+ community’s fight for equality.
Jon Kent isn't the first superhero to come out in the comics. There have been several others who have proceeded him, including Tim Drake from the Batman series and Wiccan from the Young Avengers series.
DC Comics plans to release "Superman: Son of Kal-El No. 5" on Nov. 9 at comic book stores and online.
