The man charged in the hit-and-run accident that left DJ Jinx Paul dead in East New York in 2016 appeared in a Downtown Brooklyn courthouse Wednesday to reject a plea deal and for a discovery hearing.
Kevin Ozorio faces one to four years in prison if convicted of leaving the scene of an accident, the top charge he faces. Prosecutors unsuccessfully offered him a plea deal. The trial could begin by the end of the year.
DJ Jinx Paul, whose real name was Jean Paul Guerrero, was leaving a night club in December 2016 when a car struck and killed him.
Police accuse Ozorio of driving that car and fleeing the scene. He surrendered to police a day later but was released due to a lack of evidence.
Police later obtained more surveillance video and filed charges.
