Police officers from the 62nd Precinct flooded Dyker Heights Saturday morning searching for a man who escaped from their custody.
Neighbors on Bay 11th Street say they were informed by police the suspect broke out of the precinct at around 7 a.m. while being transferred. Officers scoured the neighborhood on foot, with a K-9 unit and from the air in search of the man, who still had handcuffs dangling from his wrist.
"You wake up in the morning and come out of your house, you don't expect to see a guy with no shirt on and tattoos with a handcuff sitting in your backyard," says Steve Solfaro, who witnessed the chase.
The suspect ran from one backyard to another, trying to stay out of sight, before entering someone's home. No residents were hurt.
Police say the suspect, whose name is yet to be released, was eventually apprehended after a neighbor spotted him walking around with a hand in his pocket, trying to conceal the handcuffs.
