Police are searching for a commuter who is accused of punching a fellow straphanger in the face and then making anti-white remarks.
Surveillance video captured the suspect going through a turnstile at the Church Avenue subway station, where the attack happened on the southbound platform of the B and Q trains around 9 p.m. on Feb. 5.
The suspect fled the station after punching the 44-year-old victim, who is a white man. The victim wasn't seriously hurt in the attack, according to police.
Calling the attack "petty," one commuter called for the suspect to turn himself in. Another commuter said he had never felt unsafe as a white man at the station.
Police said they are investigating the case as a possible bias attack.
Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
