Suspicious device that prompted park evacuation near Gracie Mansion deemed 'non-threatening'

NYC Parks workers found the device while cleaning the park, according to police sources. The discovery comes just days after an explosive was thrown near Gracie Mansion, just one city block away Carl Schurz Park.

The NYPD instructed parkgoers to leave Carl Schurz Park in Manhattan just after noon on Tuesday, according to News 12's Natalie Hernandez, who was on scene.

Authorities say the NYPD's bomb squad cleared the device and deemed it "non-threatening."

The discovery comes just days after an explosive was thrown near Gracie Mansion, just one city block away Carl Schurz Park.

Parkgoers watched in awe as helicopters flew overhead and police put up yellow tape near the dog park.

About eight police vehicles and an emergency services vehicle arrived within minutes.

The park was packed with dogwalkers and pickleball players, as temperatures were higher than normal on Tuesday.
