More than 400 swimmers made their way from Manhattan to Brooklyn today via the East River as part of the NYC Swim event.
The participants came not only from Brooklyn, but traveled from all over the world. Large crowds cheered them on as they swam from Manhattan's Pier 11 to Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Organizers say the competitive race is an opportunity for swimmers to make the 0.6-mile trek across the East River, with the shadow of the world's most-famous bridge cast over them.
Chips were placed on the swimmers' ankles in order to measure their times.
Organizers say NYC Swim is also a great opportunity for individuals and companies to raise money for the charities they support.
