The NYPD says a shooting in East New York left a male 18-year-old dead and a female 18-year-old injured.

Police say Zanir Childs was shot in the torso just before 10 p.m. on Saturday in front of 812 New Jersey Ave., less than a mile away from his home.

The 18-year-old female was shot in her right arm but is expected to recover.

He and the second teen were both taken to a hospital, where Childs was pronounced dead.

Zanir's mother, Krystal Childs, described her son as academically driven and passionate about football.

She said he was a devoted son, grandson and brother.

"This is heartbreaking," said Childs. "I raised him by myself, him and his brother alone."
