Teen stabbed in back on his way to school in Crown Heights

The NYPD says a teenage boy was stabbed in the back Friday in Crown Heights.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene near 823 Franklin Ave. just before 10 a.m.

The teen was on his way to school at the International High School at Prospect Heights when the stabbing happened, according to the School Safety Union.

The NYPD says the teen was alert and conscious when officers arrived on scene.

EMS took him to Maimonides Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

The School Safety Union says the victim is 15 years old, while the NYPD tells News 12 that he is 16.

Police say they are searching for a male suspect who ran from the scene dressed in all black. He is around 5 feet 7 inches tall and 130 pounds.

Information about what sparked the attack was not immediately available.
