Teens trade jail time for art
A pilot art program is giving some troubled kids a second chance to turn their lives around.
Eight teens were chosen to be the first participants of the Young New Yorkers program. Instead of jail time on Rikers Island, they learned about photography, film and illustration during a six-week course.
Organizers say that youth who are sentenced as adults often end up back in prison later in life. They hope fundraising efforts over the next few months will allow more young people a chance in the program.
