Temps could be 100 degrees as concertgoers file in for New Jersey's Rev, White and Blue celebration

Temperatures in the triple digits are creating concern for those running the Rev, White and Blue concert at Rutgers University. Organizers want to be sure that those filing in for the concert tonight can handle the heat.

The concert is New Jersey’s Celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

About 21,000 people are expected to show up for the concert at Rutgers football stadium however they will be dealing with temperatures that may still be hovering in the hundreds by the time Nick Jonas and Naughty By Nature take the stage.

So, there are multiple cooling stations, misting fans, water stations, extra EMS and plenty of water and beer for sale.

“We’ve instructed staff if people come up and experience something heat related to get them to one of the cooling buses," said Bill Scott, chief of Rutgers Emergency Services.

Scott says they have multiple cooling buses linked with the main concourse to help people cool off.

Chief Scott says those who are feeling nauseated or disoriented need to seek water and a cooler area.

"In addition to the cooling stations, we will have plenty of water. We have over 85,000 water bottles available on site," said Dan Ryan, with Rutgers University.

The Rev, White, and Blue concert and fireworks is the state’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The 21,000 turning out will also get a reminder of another important milestone.

Sara Cureton is with the New Jersey Historical Commission.

"Today, what we are marking is the 250th anniversary of when New Jersey adopted its’ very first constitution. So this is really New Jersey’s birthday," said Cureton.
