Residents are safe after firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire in Crown Heights.
It started inside a four-story apartment building on Union Street, near Eastern Parkway.
Several tenants climbed down the fire escape to get to safety. They said heavy smoke made it impossible for them to walk out into the halls.
Neighbors say three people have been taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
