Tenants at the Ingersoll Houses in Fort Greene say feces raining from the wall and down the stairwell into tenants' apartments is a dire situation -an issue they say has happened before but never this bad.
A family tells News 12 they were up at 4 a.m. Tuesday trying to clean up their 61-year-old grandmother's apartment.
News 12 visited multiple apartments in the building and saw feces coming up from the toilet, bathtubs and even coming out of people's ceilings.
They say NYCHA told them the equipment needed to solve the issue was lost in a flood.
Water has since been turned off at the houses, but that hasn't done anything to remove the already flooded hallways and apartments.
A third-party company, who tenants say was hired by NYCHA, showed up hours later but only to take water out using buckets and dumping the contaminated liquid outside the building.
"NYCHA staff are currently working to clear this stoppage and address flooding conditions at this building," a NYCHA spokesperson says. "We ask that all residents continue to use the MyNycha app or call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 to create a work order ticket for any maintenance needs."
